PROCLAMATION. By His Excellency William Hobson, Esquire, Captain in Her Majesty's Royal Navy, and Governor and Commander in Chief in and over Her Majesjesty's Colony of New Zealand, and its Dependencies, and Vice Admiral of the same, &c. &c. HERE AS, by Letters Patent, under the Great Seal of the High Court of Admiralty of England, bearing date the thirteenth day of March, 1841, Her Majesty has been graciously pleased to ordain, constitute, and depute me, William Hobson, Esquire, Captain in Her Majesty's Royal Navy, to be Her Majesty's ViceAdmiral, Commissary, and Deputy in the office of Vice-Admiralty in Her Colony of New Zealand, and to the Territories thereon depending; to take cognizance of, and proceed in all causes, civil and maritime, and in complaints, contracts, offences, or suspected offences, crimes, and misdemeanors or, suspected misdemeanors, within the Maritime Jurisdictiction of the Vice-Admiralty of the said Colony of New Zealand. To hear and determine the same according to the rights, statutes, laws, ordinanances, and customs anciently observed, with power of deputing and surrogating in my place for the premises one or more Deputy or Deputies, under me, for the said office and execution thereof." Now, I, the Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of New Zealand aforesaid, in pursuance of the above authority, do hereby appoint William Martin, Esquire, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of this Colony, my Deputy, with full power to take cognizance of, and proceed in all the matters, and to hear and determine the same in manner aforesaid. Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, 22nd January, 1842. ITIS Excellency the Governor has been JL pleased to direct it to be notified, that until Claims to Land within this Colony shall have been finally disposed of, all persons who have preferred their Claims before the Commissioners appointed for hearing the same, will be allowed to cut Kauri or other Timber on the Land claimed by them, without interruption by the Crown. By His Excellency's Command. WILLOUGHBY SHORTLAND. SALE OF MOUNTED POLICE HORSES. Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, 22nd January, 1842. OTICE is hereby given, that at 12 o'clock, on Wednesday, the 2nd of February next, Mr., W. MASON, the Government Auctioneer, will put up to public competition, EIGHT HORSES, at Woods'Hotel, with Saddles and Bridles, belonging to the Mounted Police ttationed at Auckland. The Horses can be seen on application to Serjeant Quigley, of the Mounted Police, at the •Station, on the 29th instant, and the terms" will be made known by the Auctioneer at the time of sale.
