FORM AT TIMARU MISHAPS IN STEEPLECHASE (0.c.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday The principal event, the EUoughton Handicap, at the South Canterbury Jockey Clubs Winter Meeting at Timaru on Saturday was won by Honest Sal, who made a dashing finishing run from well back similar to that which enabled her to win the Navy Hack Handicap at Rlccarton last month. Honest Sal was in the rear with Amorlad and Roval Writ for the greater part of the journey and did not Improve to any extent until reaching the straight. A furlong from home Royal Kae passed the pacemaker, At reus, and appeared likely to win until Honest Sal came with a brilliant burst and beat him on the post. Kohara, who had fallen earlier in the Levels Hurdles, was third into the straight and finished there, a length in front of Silver Sal with the surprise favourite Amorlad and Great Coon next. Royal Flight, whose weight of 9.5 was reduced to 8.12 by an apprentice allowance, was responsible for a very impressive win in the Seadown Handicap. She raced with Green Note and Air Ace to the straight, where she ran on strongly to win from Salmi. Green Noto and Air Ace retired soon after reaching tho straight ami Lord Advocate then madn an ineffectual challentre. Salmi, after being slow away, came on tlie scene a furlong from home, but, could not trouble Royal Flight, although she outstayed Lord Advocate for second. Riding Home, having her second start, was three lengths back fourth, followed by Ring Chief, Foxchase and Green Note. Air Ace and Listen In were the last two. The field of 13 for the Fareora Hack Steeplechase was reduced to six by mishaps. Red Leader and Pilot Officer foil at the second fence. Forage and Test Pilot went out at the next, where Valcron ran off and Bright Feather lost his rider in the next round. Pink Clover acted as pacemaker until he crashed at the stand double with a round to go. Tenorman then took up the running and Gay Fort joined him approaching the last fence. Gay Fort just scrambled through the brush, but did not lose any ground, and soon had Tenorman beaten. Double Light struggled on for third, well clear of Roman Son, Jacksonville and Strip. The first and second horses both suffered setbacks. Tenorman losing several lengths by turning the wrong way'when the field went, off and Gay Fort being taken almost off the course by the riderless Pink Clover commencing the final round.
