TRUST MOVES INTO BAR " (0.C.) INVERCARGILL, Tuesday For the first time in 38 years it jg possible for hotel guests in Invercargill to purchase liquor in ah house bar for serving to guests in the diniivg room or in the lounge now in use at the Grand Hotel. The bar is being run by the Invercargill Licensing Trust with the permission of the owners of the hotel, which will eventually b e taken over by the trust, but the negotiations for purchase are not yet complete.
An employee of the trust is in, charge of .the bar and he has the assistance of two waiters, also employees of the trust. The bar is open from noon to 2 p.m., 5.30 p.m. to 7.15 p.m., and 8.15 p.m. to 11.15 p.m. Drinks are served only in the dining room during meal hours or in the lounge and onlv to a guest, to people having lunch or dinner at the hotel, or to people who are being entertained by guests; Drinking in the bar is not permitted and guests are not allowed to buy bottles of liquor to take to their bedrooms.' Guests had expressed appreciation' of this new facility. It is the first time that the Grand Hotel has had a bar for it was built after no-licence came into force. Guests who have booked in at the hotel since the bar opened have been agreeably surprised when they found they were able to get .a drink after the long train journey from the north.
