SHOPS OPEN TODAY
RELIEF FOR HOUSEWIVES FRESH BREAD AND MEAT For the majority of shopkeepers and shop assistants the Christmas holiday respito ended last night and practically all retail establishments will reopen today. Shopping will continue normally until the end of the week when a similar break will bo observed over the New Year. Most of the shops have been closed since Friday night or Saturday until today, but a number of greengrocers and dairies opened yesterday. Some milk bar and light refreshment establishments were also open but only a few of the restaurants were doing business as usual. Housewives who had to lay in stocks of foodstuffs for almost 'four days will welcome the reopening of bakery and butchery shops in particular. Bakers resumed work last night and full supplies of fresh bread will be available early today. Grocery and other shops are also to resume business this morning. The holiday will continue without interruption for workers in the building industry and heavy trades and factories are similarly situated. The banks will reopen tomorrow, but most of the commercial concerns will not resume until after the New Year holidavs.
