PICTURESQUE FUNCTION

CHILDREN'S QUEEN CARNIVAL A happy and picturesque crowd of children, all members of the Cultural Youth Training Centres founded and organised by Mrs E. Collison, assembled last night at the Fabian Club rooms for a queen carnival ceremony which they had planned and organised themselves. The Mayoress, Mrs J. A. C. Allura, performed the crowning ceremony, and there was a large attendance of parents and friends. Proceedings opened with the singing of "God Defend New Zealand," after which four boys acting as heralds announced the entrance of each queen with her retinue of attendants. The queens represented districts ranging trom Remuera and Newmarket to Blockhouse Bay and Titirangi, and covered most of the areas where "C.Y.T." centres liave been started. A guard of honour was formed and each queen with her attendants, dressed according to individual conceptions of regal dignity, then advanced tp the platform and was duly crowned by the Mayoress. All carried posies, and all were obviously filled with pride and delight in a pageant which, in accordance with the general idea underlying the Cultural Youth Training Movement, they had carried out entirely themselves.
