LOST AIRCRAFT

NO TRACE YET FOUND SEARCHERS' DIFFICULTY (0.C.) WEST PORT,, Tuesday The search for the Corsair fighter aircraft, which has been missing since Saturday morning shortly after flying over Westport, 'was unsuccessful today. Tiie aircraft was one of four Royal New Zealand Air Force machines on a training flight, and was missed when recrossing the Southern Alps. Misty weather and light rain this morning prevented a search of the Bullor Gorge area being carried out from the air. Lack of definite knowledge of the position of the plane at the time contact was lost with the other machines in the flight hampers the search made |jy ground parties. The locality the flight was following alter passing over Westport covered the Buller Gorge area, which is densely bush clad and mountainius. No reports have been received of anyone having heard a solitarv plane flying in the locality. The police will commence a searcii tomorrow in the Lyell area and mountains in the vicinity of Inangahua Landing, as a result of a report received from a settler. _ _ The pilot'of the missing Corsair is Pilot-Officer K. B. Barstow, of Christchurch.
