PROBLEM OF BILLETING The hillettinsr of members of the Canterbury team which plays (Auckland at Eden Park on December 29, 30 and January 1, was causing concern, stated Mr H. Duncan, chairman of the Auckland Cricket Association, at last evening's meeting of the management committee. Mr Duncan said the Canterbury players would arrive in Auckland on December' 28, after playing Wellington, and would be leaving again on January 2. It was also reported that the Wellington Brabiu Cup side would require billeting. Members of the committee agreed with the chairman that tho situation was difficult, and it was decided that each delegate should immediately seek the aid of bis club. It was resolved that every endeavour should be made to interest old players and enthusiasts in the matter. It was agreed that a player-manager be appointed for tho match against Wellington at Wellington, but that the appointment be withheld until the representative team is selected. The country committee suggested that tho country week tourney should be proceeded with this season. SWIMMING SEASON FIRST CARNIVAL ARRANGED The Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association has decided to open the season with a combined clubs' carnival on November 20. The president, Dr T. H. Pettit, urged that the programme should not be too long, and that provision should bo made for water polo matches. It was decided to make application to the New Zealand Council for permission to hold the North Island championships in all classes at Auckland this year. It was also resolved to recommend the council to consider the question of inviting prominent overseas swimmers to tour the Dominion after the war. It was agreed to nominate Mr C. Atkinson, of Hawke's Bay, as the next president of the New Zealand Association, several mem' hers making reference to his long association with the sport. The question of restricting the number of competitors attending championship meetings was discussed. Jt was stated that many swimmers who did not have a chance of success at the last national carnival had come north for a holiday. Dr Pettit pointed out that a proposal to restrict the number comprising a centre team to 20 members was defeated at the annual meeting of the council. The Waitemiita Club's application to hold a carnival on December 6 was granted, as was that of the Ponsonby Club to hold one the following week. HANDWORK DISPLAY GREEN LANE HOSPITAL An attractive exhibition of handwork was opened yesterday at the Green Lane Hospital under the auspices of the Patients' Club of the Auckland Tuberculosis Association. The exhibits, which are the work of patients and nurses ill in the shelters and of expatients, were displayed and judged at the tuberculosis shelters yesterday morning and were shown to the patients in the wards in the afternoon. The public is being afforded an opportunity to see them this afternoon at the hospital. They include articles made In- both male Imd female patients, and among them, in the men's section, are beautiful examples of Richelieu work, tapestry and embroidery, tatting, poker work and leather gloves. There are also sketches, pencil drawings and a painting, The women have contributed similar exhibits and some fine needlework, and the few children in the shelters have exhibited drawings and models. The object of the exhibition is to stimulate interest in occupational therapy at the hospital. Prizes were given by Dr ('. .McDowell. Dr J. Hinds and the nurses and were won by Miss J. Brennan (crochet supper cloth), Miss llich ''Yugoslav embroidery), and Staff-Nurse P. Taylor (satin-stitched bed-jacket). The judges were Dr M. C. Laing, Sister M. Miller, Dr McDowell and Dr Hinds.
