Flving-Officer Fred Marsden Clarke, irho'lias been posted missing, was educated at the New Plymouth Boys' High c-hool and was a member of the Waikato Mounted Rifles until 1940. He transferred to the R.N.Z.A.F. and was commissioned in Canada. He was a ,keen ithlete and a prominent Waikato Jjugby and cricket player.
