SUCCESSFUL FAIR
AID FOR MENTAL PATIENTS A successful bazaar to help with the funds of the Grey Lynn Ladies' Mental Hospital Committee was held yesterday in the Town Hall concert chamber. This organisation takes a keen interest in the welfare of returned soldier patients at the mental hospital and members visit them each wee>, taking gifts of cigarettes, sweets, fruit and reading material. Each year they give a Christmas party for the men and also entertain them during the year at dances. The committee recently presented the medical superintendent, Dr H. M. Buchanan, with a cheque for £l5O, which was used in the purchase of a cinematograph machine. Since last year's fair £550 has been used in maintaining the work. Card parties are held edch week to assist the .finances. The fair was opened by Miss Dorothea Ryan. The president of the committee, Mrs A. M. Gibson, thanked all who had assister, both by practical assistance and by donations. The stalls, wliicli were in tbe charge of members of the were well stocked with provisions, clothing, novelties. needlework, flowers and produce. Refreshments were also served during the day. The amount raised was approximately £SOO.
