New Zealand Christmas
Christmas! Christmas in New Zealand! Beneath a sky 0/ blue, Rich garden-lands and harvest fields, And flowers of ev'ry hue. The orchards and the orange groves With fragrance scent the air. Kind S'ature with a lavish hand Spreads beauty even/where. Tho- starred festoons of clematis Arc draped from tree to tree, Pohulultawas by the shore Are blooming rampantly. The tuis in the kauris tall Are warbling gleefully, The bellbirds and the thrushes swell The gladsome melody. The beaches, hills, and shady vales Itesound with laughter gay; 'Tls joy-time in our island home— The Christmas holiday. —Prize-winning- poem by Glen Barclay (13)
