GISBORNE, Friday Twelve thousand sheep were sold at a special shorn wether and ewe fair to-day, when buyers from the Waikato, Hawke's Bay, Manawatu and Taranaki operated. Wethers were in very strong demand and improved in value, but the ewe market was slack. Most lines were in good order and included some largo drafts of good two-tooth wethers. These sold from 2ls fid to 22s 3d; medium, 20s to 21s Id; fat and forward fourtooths, 23s 6d to 25s 2d-, medium, 21s 6d; two-tooth ewes, 24s to 26s 5d for well-grown types, and medium, 21s to 22s fid. PUKEKOHE STOCK SALE (0.C.) PUKEKOHE, Friday Bidding was steady for all good-quality dairy cows and heifers close to Profit at Alfred Buckland and Sons' sale at Pukekohe yesterday. There was a good entry, but values generally were lower. Fat store and boner cattle were penned in large numbers. Binding was keen and all classes sold readily at recent quotations. There was a full entry of all classes of fat and store pigs, which met a ready demand. Values were very firm at late rates. REID RUBBER MILLS The accounts of Reid New Zealand Rubber Mills, Limited, for the year ended September 30 show a net profit, after providiug for depreciation, contingencies and taxation, ot £12,862. compared with £10,631 in the previous year and £10.140 iri 1941. Provision for taxation is £41,726, against £30,250 last year. The directors recommend a dividend on all shares of 6 per cent per annum (unchanged). This will absorb £9036, leaving to bo carried forward £3820. which, with the sum brought forward, will bring the undistn buted profits to £]7.475. Gross trading profit was £80,921, against £68,042. The report states that turnover increased substantially, although it had not been practicable to satisfy the demand. The need for careful conservation of raw materials still existed, but, short ago of manpower had been the principal factor in limiting production. Reference is made to the successful operation of the rubber reclaim plant, which is being extended, and to tho construction of the new main factory at Ellerslic, to finance which 50.000 unissued shares wero offered to shareholders. A further call of 5s a share is to be made in January. Mr. R. B. Cranwell, the retiring director, is nominated for re-election.
