CABLES IN BRIEF
American Wages Dispute. lhe United States War Labour Board is facing another serious wages dispute. It lias suddenly been presented with a demand for higher wages by more than 1,000,000 shipyard workers. They claim that the cost of- living has gone up by 18 per cent since last year and are asking for u 9 per cent rise. Uniforms for Americans.—Britishmade uniforms are being supplied for American officers on duty in the United Kingdom under reciprocal lendlease. Such clothing, according to an American Army announcement, may now be requisitioned from a huge general supply depot filled with goods made by the British clothing industry. Arms Production.—Mr. Donald Nelson, chairman of the United States War Production Board, has explained to journalists his statement, published yesterday, that the decrease in America's arms output for May was a very serious matter. He said that the chief reason for the lag was the change in the military programme made necessary by battlefro.nt experience, but he denied that this was a discouraging sign.
