ENGAGEMENTS

members of armed forces All women in Christchurch on fulltime service with the Armed Forces now have the privilege of membership of the social club that has been prepared under the auspices of the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Fund. The club is situated at 170 Hi ah Street, and the furnishings and fittings arc sufficiently con, plot. for members to begin to inhabit it. The club is not meant to be a very ambitious or grand place, but a place where the members can rest and reel at home. The soft colours, abundant cushions, comfortable chairs and sofas, and adequate appointments of the recreation and tearooms suggest that the aim of the committee to make the club one with a restful and homelike atmosphere has been happily achieved. In one large lounge and a tearoom with accommodation for 44, members may entertain their friends. Light teas and suppers are served. Besides these two rooms, where members may entertain their friends, there are also a lounge and a writing and reading room for members' use only. These are comfortably furnished, and the reading room is provided with books and magazines, most of which have been syPP 1 through the courtesy of Mr. . E. J. -Belllibrarian at the Public Library The club is open from 2 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. da The whole of the furnishing of the club has been done by members of the committee, who, in the weeks since Easter, have been working hard recovering furniture, making cushions and laying carpets. Gifts of such articles as lamp shades and crockery have been received.
