ANSWER TO CRITICS

GENERAL BENNETT'S ESCAPE SYDNEY, April 8 In the House of Representatives at Canberra the Minister for the Army, Mr. Forde, reiterated that Major-Gen-eral Gordon Bennett's auction in escaping from Singapore had been endorsed by the War Cabinet and Service chiefs-of-staff. "I have discussed the matter with the Military Board," said Mr. Forde, "and its members are unanimous that, as he remained for two hours after the surrender, he must be completely exonerated; no grounds have been established to lay any charge against him whatever." Mr. Forde was answering Mr. Anthony, Country Party member, New South Wales.
