WORRYING TACTICS
10,000 GUERILLAS
ATTACKS ON. HUNGARIANS
EASTERN CZECHOSLOVAKIA
(Reed. 7.40 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 1 Ten thousand guerillas in subCarpathian Russia, the easternmost tip of Czecho-Slovakia, now occupied by Hungarians, daily communicate by radio with London headquarters, from which the guerillas' first communique is now issued. The communique states that guerillas attacked a Hungarian military unit near Tuska, and killed at least 30 of them and exploded a munition
dump. No Russians were killed and only two were wounded. The guerillas also attacked a new Hungarian aerodrome, where they annihilated the garrison after a short engagement and destroyed several aeroplanes and quantities of munitions and petrol. Coal and munition dumps were set on fire at the Kerecin railway station. The guerillas attacked a Hungarian supply transport near the village of Sasovka and killed the escort and distributed most of the food among the starving local population. Dr. Pavel Cebere, sub-Carpathian Russian representative on the Czech State Council in London, states that the guerillas are concentrated in three areas, where they are able to cover communications. They hide in the mountains and dense valley forests. So far few have been captured. The activity of the guerillas has forced the Germans to detail probably three divisions to aid the Hungarian army of occupation. The scope of the guerillas' present activities possibly presages a considerable spring offensive.
