JAUNT IN ARMY TRUCK
GAOL FOR THREE SOLDIERS

WELLINGTON, Monday Three soldiers, Troopers Stanley Henry Bowden, Russell Lloyd Cecil Thomas and Angus Donaldson Welsh, all of the 3rd New Zealand Army Tank Battalion, Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, were found guilt by district court-martial on four charges and sentenced to 28 days' imprisonment with hard labour. The charges were: —Disobeying in a manner showing wilful defiance of authority and a lawful command, in that when personally ordered to return to camp with an Army truck in their possession they did not do so, but instead drove toward Tatipo at a high speed, from time to time swerving across the road to prevent interception; conduct to the prejudice of good order and discipline in being improperly in possession of an Army truck; breaking out of camp; damaging public property, a cell at the Taupo police station, to the extent of £2 16s. The accused were ordered to be put under stoppages of pay until each had made good 18s 8d toward the damage done to the prison cell.
