AIR RAID SHELTER

POWER BOARD SCHEME

The principle that ad hoc local bodies which are required to provide their own air-raid shelters in their premises should not have to contribute to the expenditure of the Emergency Precautions Service in providing public shelters was approved by the Auckland ElectricPower Board yesterday. A letter setting out this condition was received front the E.P.S. headquarters. The chairman, Mr. S. J. Harbutt, said the board's architects had prepared a plan for the construction of a shelter in tlie basement of the Queen Street building. The estimated cost was £IOOB, but a modified scheme would cost considerably less. The Government would contribute half the expenditure. The shelter would give accommodation for over 550 persons. No action was taken.
