ESCAPE TO ENGLAND
DUTCHMEN STEAL AIRCRAFT
LONDON, Dec. 20 Anti-aircraft guns opened fire as a twin-engined German aeroplane crossed the East Coast of England flying low. As the aeroplane circled 50 feet above a tiny Suffolk village, soldiers fired Bren guns and farm workers flung themselves flat, expecting the machine to return the fire. But the pilot circled again and landed in a field. As soldiers and Home Guards ran up, rifles and tommy-guns at the ready, two tall, blonde, young men climbed out. "Don't shoot, don't shoot," they shouted in English. "We're Dutch. We want to fight with you to save Holland." Three hours earlier the young Dutchmen had stolen the aeroplane from an airfield in Holland. One is now a pilotofficer in the R.A.F., and the other is serving with the Netherlands Government.
