RADIO STATIONS

POSSIBLE STOPPAGES EMERGENCY SAFEGUARD fBY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Inquiries made to-day as to whether New Zealand would be likely to follow the procedure adopted by radio broadcasting systems on the Pacific Coast of America this week of ceasing to transmit if it is feared that enomy aircraft are approaching, it was stated in reply that New Zealand listeners should be prepared for a complete cessation of broadcasting should any attack from the air upon this country appear imminent. The question was also raised of the possibility of New Zealand adopting the British plan of synchronising one broadcasting programme from a number of stations, so that the enemy would be deprived of a number of separate wave-lengths, the origin of which could be identified. It was learned that this question was being gone into with technical experts. In exceptional circumstances it is quite possible that there might be some restriction on Parliamentary broadcasting.
