UNPAID OVERTIME
UNION'S APPEAL HEARD <O.C.) HAMILTON, Tuesday The action of a Hamilton firm in employing 24 men for 45 hours a week without paying overtime rates for five hours was the subject of legal argument in the Arbitration Court at Hamilton to-day, when an appeal against a magistrate's decision was heard. The appellant was the Auckland Engineering and Related Trades Union (Mr. W. R. Tuck), and the respondent was A. M. Bisley and Company, Limited, Hamilton (Mr. A. L. Tompkins). When the case came before Mr. W. H. Freeman, S.M., in February, he dismissed the information on the grounds that in his opinion the breach was excusable. Mr. Justice Tyndall presided when the appeal was heard todav, and associated with him were Messrs. W. Cecil Prime and A. L. Monteitli. Decision was reserved.
