AID FOR RUSSIA
SUPPORT IN DUNEDIN [RY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION 1 DUNEDIN. Tuesday A gathering of about 2000 people in the Town Hall last night paid tribute to the magnificent defence being put up by the Russians and pledged wholehearted support to a policy of giving every assistance to the Soviet in the light' against the common enemy. The meeting was held bv the Dunedin branch of the New Zealand Society for Closer Relations with Russia. The M avor, Mr. A. H. Allen, presided and the speakers were Mr. H. Atmore, M P., and Mr. J Roberts, of Christchurch. Resolutions were carried conveying greetings to the people of Russia from the citizens of Dunedin and urging the Government to afford all possible assistance to the Soviet.
STUDENTS' CABLEGRAM REPLY FROM LENINGRAD [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION'] WELLIXGTON, Tuest!ay The Victoria University College Students' Association sent the following cablegram to the Leningrad University: "Wellington students salute heroic Leningrad, where we know university students will be in the forefront, as always, in the defence of civilisation against Fascist barbarism." The following reply has been received: "Students and teachers of the Leningrad University express their deepest gratitude for the sentiments of fraternal solidarity. We are helping with all forces our beloved Red Army. We are quite confident of the triumph of our right cause and a near victory for all progressive forces of humanity over bloodstained Fascism."
