POWER SUPPLY PROBLEM
HIGHER COAL OUTPUT URGED (0.c.) PTKEKOHE, Tuesday Reporting to n meeting of the Franklin Klectric-Power Hoard at Pukekohs to-day. the engineer. Mr. L. G. Sharp t said the cold weather had made it dillicult to reduce the consumption of power to the quota, but it would b® some weeks yet before the lull etiect would be felt of the reduction in the hours for water-heaters. The consumption for last week rose to O.'W.P-O. which was -10.000 units above the quota.
Mr. G. T. Parvin claimed that ths shortage of power could have beon avoided by the mining industry providing sufficient coal to run to full capacity the generating stations operated oy steam power. It was unanimously resolved to communicate with the Government stating that the board viewed present position with alarm and '■•j 11 sidcred it could be rectified by a greater output of coal by the miners. The board decided not to c ' 01 1", State houses being erected at 1 * or in other parts of the board's distri until the restrictions were eased o lifted, and to give the engineer diwre tion as to what other new install a should not be connected in the m time.
