With an entry of dogs, some from as far afield as North Auckland and Soul hlind the first event was concluded this afternoon of the South Island and New Zealand collie dog championships. Entries were exceptionally good, exceeding the usual '°.\ e of the South Island championships, and trio competitors include most of the Dominions leading performers. The trials will probably extend over the remainder of ttie week. Ihe weather was ideal for the two days occupied by the opening event, the National and South Island huntaway championships. The South Island event resulted as follows:—E. Harris 1 Ben (Taihape) ~S pom s. 1- (4 McMillan's Gyp (Otane). >u A, 2; I.' Anderson's Pat (Kurow) 57, M• Matheson's Svd (Middlemarch), 4. l.ne first seven dogs in this event (|iialilled to run off for the Dominion litle, which was awarded for the hitches aggregate for the two runs.
