WORK AMONG MALAYANS
Y.W.C.A. UNDERTAKINGS
An account of the work of the Y.W.C.A. in Singapore and the problems facing the association was given by Mrs. Eric Price at a reception in her honour yesterday afternoon by the membership committee of the Y.W.C.A. Mrs. Price has returned to New Zealand after being general secretary of the association in Singapore for three years. Of the 600 members of the association in Singapore there were 22 different nationalities and nearly as many religious, Mrs. Price siwid, and it was with the widening of the mental horizon of these women that the Y.W.C.A. was doing such great work. Some of the conditions under which the Malayan girls worked were outlined hv Mrs. Price. Many of them were cmployed in shops from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. for 10 dollars a month, and the raising ot the standard of living was another problem being looked into by the association.
