WOMEN AS CHEMISTS
MAGISTRATE'S PROPOSAL [BY TKLEGRAI'r: —PRESS ASSOCIATION'] WELLINGTON, Thursday ' "Women of this country are anxious to do something for the war effort," said Mr. \Y. F. Stihvell, S.M., chairman of the Armed Forces Appeal Board, in an appeal for exemption from military service by an analytical chemist. "1 am quite sure that young women who have graduated as bachelors of science will be prepared to step into the industry for the period of the war at least." The representative of the company making the appeal said that attempts had not been made to fill chemists positions with women graduates, fo secure men was practically impossible. The appeal was adjourned sine cue In the national interest, it was pointed out, the employers would have to release the chemist if the Crown wanted his services.
