MAYOR'S RETIREMENT

REVIEW OF WORKS A review of a number of works which had received attention during his two terms .of office was presented to the City Council last night by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, who said he had a feeling of pardonable satisfaction that everything could be said to be in order for the new Mayor. Tbe city's finances were in a sound condition, and during the council's term considerable progress had been recorded in a variety of directions. Replying to the Mayor's thanks to the staff and councillors, Mr. J. A. C, Allum said nothing more could have been done in the interests of the city than Sir Ernest had done. Mr. Allum was supported by all the councillors.
