WELLINGTON, Thursday Detailed accounts of the Railway Department covering operations during the year ended March .41, coiicerniiijr which the Minister made a preliminary statement last week, wore published in to-day's Gazette. J.hey show a net revenue for the 12 months of £ 1,694,644, compared wit-h £1.189,031 Inst year, and a Budget estimate of £1,200,000. Following is a comparison of the accounts for the last two years, showing the results of railway operation in the two islands, and the aggregate transactions in respect of otlrer services:

For the four-weekly period ended March 31 the net earnings were £221.180. as against £277.010 last year, a decrease of £52.524. 't he gross earnings for the period were £1,038,893, winch is £3l ,778 more than in the equivalent .period last year. Expenses amounted to £811.107, an increase of £84,302. There was no Easter holiday traffic included, while the whole of it fell in the last four weeks of the preceding year. _ Operating revenue in the North Island was £572,209, an increase of £29.237. Expenses amounted to £425.526, an increase of £35,904. Net earnings were £6667 lower, being £116,773, against £153,440. In the South Island receipts were £32!),931 and expenses £274.211, increases of £6473 and £30,905 respective! v. Net earnings decreased by £21.432 to £55.723. The revenue from miscellaneous services was £ 136.660 and the expenditure £114.670, giving a net revenue of £21,990, a decrease of £21,125 on the result last year.
