| ANTARCTIC BASES PLAN WASHINGTON, April 30 .Rear-Admiral Bvrd told, the House of Representatives Appropriations Committ.ee that the Antarctic could be made a strategic supply base should the Panama Canal be destroyed. Palmer Land, 500 miles from the southern tip of South America, could ho used as a base for ships and a cache for vital supplies. Little America could be used as a stopover point for aeroplane flights between the United States and Australia.
