PAY IN ROYAL AIR FORCE
NEW ZEALANDERS' POSITION REPLY TO A COMPLAINT (S.R.) WELLINGTON, Monday Tlio system of payment of New Zealanders serving with tlio Royal Air Force was explained by Ihe Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, in an interview to-day when there was referred to him a complaint from a New Zealand sergeant serving with the Air Force in Britain that a sum of £'S had been deducted from his pay. The New Zealander said that when the deduction was made it was to offset a sum received by him on sailing from New Zealand, which he had spent long since, helicving it to be a bonus. "The fact is that when New Zealanders leave to serve with the Royal Air Force they receive an advance of £8 sterling against their Royal Air Force pay," the .Minister said. "It sometimes happens that quite a time elapses after their arrival in England before the £8 is brought to account. It is dillicult to see, however, how the advance could be misunderstood and taken as an extra grant as the procedure is clearly set out in their financial instructions on which they receive a special lecture before leaving the Dominion."
