RAIN AND HEAT
PAST MONTH'S WEATHER The rainfall for January was 4.23 in., according to figures taken by the Government observer, Mr, S. M. Yallop. Temperatures were slightly higher last month than a year ago, the mean being 67.98 degrees, compared with 67.22 degrees last year, and the maximum during the month also was slightly higher at 79 degrees. The lowest recording was 53.4 degrees. Barometric pressures ranged between a maximum of 30.253 in. on January 5 and a minimum of 29.485 in. on January 12, the mean being 29.976 in. The total period of sunshine for the month was 225 hours 24 minutes, with 13 hours 54 minutes on New Year's Day, and there were only two days without sunshine.
Generally speaking the month was one of variable weather, with a high degree of humidity during the second half. The winds were about equally divided between north-east and southwest, and reached gale force on two days. Dew formed on 12 days.
