GULLS BENEFIT
OMEN OF GOOD LUCK Tt is estimated that hundreds of tons of herring are oaten each year by gulls which follow the scows laden with fish for Canadian canneries along the Eraser River. Fishermen are superstitious about the seagulls, however, believing them to be good luck, as the action of the birds indicate when the pilchards are schooling and where the herring and other fish are moving. It. is believed this is the reason "the scows nro nob covered with tarpaulins which would prevent the gulls from devouring the lish.
