ANXIETY FOR WAITARA

A resolution was unanimously passed instructing the county clerk. Mr. H- & \ aughan. to write to the Minister of Defence ._ the Hon. F. Jon. s. .-uglK'stmg the advisability of ordering a "blackout" at Waitara owing io ;ho danger of attacks through the brilliant- lighting ot the town. Mr. C. H, Burnett, disttier representative of the hospital hoard on tha emergency precautious organisation* said lie had felt uneasy about the tofltt of Waitara for some time, and mot® particularly since the occurrence at Nauru Island. What, lie asked. there to prevent a raidi;r .standing, W or 12 miles out to sea and «a oiling Waitara? A raider would iusve sotn® difficulty in entering Auckland, or Wellington, hut it could stand out in tfl« open ocean off Taranaki and do considerable damage.
