MISSING AEROPLANE
REWARD FOR INFORMATION
A reward of £SO has been offered by tlie Air Secretary, Wellington, for any definite evidence as to the fate of tha Royal New Zealand Air Force Airspeed Oxford monoplane which was reported missing in the Mokau district, north of New Plymouth, on September 30. The three occupants of the machine were I lying-Officer Harry Nalder Major and Flight-Sergeant Sheldon Benton Smith, both of Auckland, and Corporal Raymond Bernard Smith, of Wellington.
The aeroplane was one of two whicii left Auckland for Ohakea. They encountered bad weather and restricted visibility along the west coast, and the other machine turned back and returned to Auckland safely. An aeroplane answering the description of the missing Airspeed Oxford was seen_st various points between and New Plymouth between 1 p.m. and 2 p.®., but subsequent searches carried out bj Royal New Zealand Air Force machines and parties from various settlements in the district produced no definite trace of either the aeroplane or its occupants. The machine was a twin-engined monoplane, painted silver.
