MILK DELIVERY
MINISTER'S ATTITUDE COUNCIL DISSATISFIED STARTING TIME PROBLEM Dissatisfaction with the attitude taken by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C'. Webb, regarding the delivery of milk in Auckland was expressed at a meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council yesterday. The question at issue was the refusal of milk roundsmen to make an earlier start with deliveries, especially in the summer months. The council recently asked the Minister to preside at a conference between vendors and roundsmen. In his reply the Minister stated that lie had boon unable to preside at the conference, and pointed out that agreement had been reached by.both sides in Wellington and Christchurch, Diversity of opinion had boon apparent at the conference concerning several matters that affected earlier starting, but it bad boon suggested by both sides that an earlier finishing time could be reached by the adoption of some improved method of delivery. "1 n loss there is a substantial measure ot agreement among those concerned it is not my intention to exercise my powers to amend the law regarding the starting time," the letter concluded. "I should bo glad therefore to have the co-operation of the council in obtaining agreement in the matter." The chairman, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, said the council was disappointed that the Minister had not soon fit to take any stops in the matter. The remedy was to amend the starting time, but as the roundsmen wore apparently adamant lie did not know how there could be the co-operation the Minister suggested. The council could do no more at the present juncture. It was decided to restate the position to the Minister.
