CENTRE TOURNAMENT
OPEN SINGLES EVENT Th Q annual open singles championship of the Auckland Bowling Centre will he commenced to-dav, when section play, five rounds of which will he played on various local preens, will stnrt at nine o'clock. The outright 'winners of sections and those tieintr in sections at the end of the five rounds will go forward to the Carlton green to-morrow, where post-section play will be held on the two-life system. . \ record entry has been received for the competition, and it is anticipated that a high standard of play will be revealed. Both the title-holder, J. S. Martin (Carlton), and the runner-up last year. A Connew (Mount Albert), are competing. KAUKAPAKAPA OPENING Fine weather prevailed for the official opening ceremony on the Kaukapakapa Bowling Club's green on Saturday. The president, Mr. L. G. H. Drinnan, welcomed members of the centre. Messrs. E. W. Inder and I. Sutherland, as well as visiting bowlers from many city and suburban clubs. On behalf of the 'Auckland Centre, Mr. Inder expressed good wishes for an enjoyable season. Mr. Sutherland said he was pleased to learn that some members of the club, the most northerly under the. centre's control, would he representing the district at the Dominion championships in Christchurch in January. Mrs. L. Drinnan threw the first kitty and bowl.
