NEW HOSPITAL BLOCK
SITE AT INFIRMARY EARLY START PLANNED Following receipt- of authority from the Health Department., the Auckland Hospital Board intends to proceed with the erection of a six-storey modern hospital block in the Infirmary grounds at Epsom. The building is designed to accommodate 260 patients. Provision for the work, which is to be carried out by the Fletcher Construction Company, was made in a recent application foi a loan of £200,000. It was originally decided to erect a building of five storeys, but another storey will be added. Incorporating the latest features of hospital design, the building will be constructed of fire-re-sisting materials. The board may decide at a later stage to erect a duplicate block. V The chairman of the Hospital Board, Mr. Allan J. Moody, stated yesterday that, owing to the shortage of beds at the Auckland Hospital, there was an urgent need to find more accommodation. It was intended .to lose no time in making a start, and the block would be completed as quickly as possible.
