HOUSES FOR SOLDIERS
Sir, —I feel it is my duty to bring to the notice of the public an injustice which is being inflicted upon many of the members of our fighting forces. When these men apply for a State house they are told that they must take their chance with the rest of the applicants. Many of our soldiers, sailors and airmen have had to leave good money for the rigid economies necessary to live on service pay and must cut their budgets extensively. Giving up a home and cutting a high rent is practically the first and only method open to them. But shifting into inferior accommodation is a hard return for service to a country when that country provides cheap housing to others who are better paid. Surely the Government could make some gesture of relief for them and allow them a measure of priority in the matter of State houses. Army Wife.
