CONSERVATOR'S REPORT WEAtHER AGAINST ANGLERS GOOD CATCHES RECORDED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Tuesday "The rivers have boon more or less discoloured and in flood since Labour Day," savs, the conservator of fish and game, Mr, A. Ivcan, in his first report of the present trout fishing season. "Consequently, anglers have experienced adverse conditions. The Ngongotaha and TJtuhina Rivers have provided good sport, and quite a number of fish taken there have been in good condition, and have just run in from the lake. Hamurana, Waiteti and Awahou have not been fished to any extent. "In the vicinity of the mouth of the Ngongotaha some good catches have been taken 011 the fly. The Ohau channel has fished fairly well, and anglers who have visited the Rotoiti end of the channel have clone very well; indeed, a party of two rods took 100 fish during the first eight days. Included in the catch Were several fish weighing 61b. "Rotoehu was popular with anglers and some large catches have been taken there," Mr. Kean continues. "During six days' fly fishing. Mr. W. H. Gomez and party of three took 10S fish, all but 32 being in very good condition. Okataina fished well during the opening days and over the week-end 70 fish wore recorded, and specimens up j to 91b. were taken. "Reports from Taupo arc to the j effect that the fishing there was greatly affected by rough weather and the eastern side of the lake has been subject to rough seas and strong westerly winds," continued Mr. Kean. "Anglers have confined their activities to the rivers. Waitahanui has produced some good-conditioned fish and anglers fishing between the bridge and the lake have accounted for specimens up to 91b. "Reports from the southern end of the lake are very encouraging and, although rough weather has been experienced there, quite a number of limit catches were taken in the Tongariro. Fishing in the Motuopa and at Tauiranga-Taupo has been good also. Anglers have secured good sport from Tokaauu wharf, and rainbow trout up to B.Jlb. in weight have been taken at the delta. The largest fish reported was one of 91b."
