LEADERS WHO LOST

FRENCHMEN WAITING TRIAL' NEW YORK, Nov. 16 A pathetic picture of the former French leaders who . are awaiting trial for having "lost the war" is drawn, by the Vichy correspondent of the New York Times. M. Leon Blum, the former Popular Front Premier, is passing the time with an intensive study of Macaulay's History of England. M. Blum dispirited and declines to take exercise, contrasting with the dynamic war-time Premier and Foreign Minister, M. P-aul Raynaud, who tires himself'with mucE walking. The former Minister for the Interior, M. Georges Mandel, is extremely shorttempered, and argues with his guards. M. Edouard Daladier, Premier before M. Reynaud, remains stolid, but the ex-Commander-in-Chief, General Gamelin, is writing reams of data for his eventual defence.
