Members suggested that it might bo practicable to employ a limited number of workers provided the council was given the right to select tho men. In the absence of definite information before the end of the month the council decided to dispense with the services of the men and to resume the scheme later should the department's proposals be within the means of the council. TE AROHA DISCUSSION MAINTENANCE WORK [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TE AROHA, Thursday Revised conditions for subsidised labour under Schema 13 were presented to the Te Arohn Borough Council by the Department of Labour. At present men employed on borough maintenance are paid l'2s a week by the council and £4 by the Government. Mr. Hamilton said there were some men on maintenance work who were not worth l'2s a week. Mr. P. 0. Pilkington, the borough foreman, said the men wore doing good work on maintenance. There were nine employed. The council agreed to continue the payment of 12s a man a week, but could not eee its way clear to arrango a 6chexne of work fox 12 months aJieaa.
