PETROL CONTROL

WORK OF COMMITTEES MINISTER'S APPRECIATION [by TELEGRAPH —I'll ESS association] WELLINGTON, Friday Appreciation of the work of the oil fuel advisory committees throughout New Zealand was expressed by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, to-day. "The work of these committees, particularly during the past fortnight, furnishes a fine example of voluntary war effort by patriotic citizens," said Mr. Sullivan. "The committees are composed of men with a first-hand knowledge of local petrol requirements. Thousands of extremely difficult appeals for increased rations have demanded urgent attention and for the past fortnight these men have worked every day, frequently 10 hours a day, in order that there should not be any delay in. deciding appeals. "The work is entirely voluntary, said the Minister. "No member will receive a penny'for his services. The work also is exacting, as members have to discriminate between genuine and excessive claims, knowing while they are making their decisions how much depends upon their judgment. Practically every member of the committees has his own business to attend to. Private affairs have had to be neglected, however, and many evenings sacrificed to permit the extraordinary volume of work of the committees to be handled expeditiously." Mr. Sullivan said he wished to extend to every member of the committees his own and the Government's thanks for the work they are doing.
