BAN ON FOOTBALLERS
RUGBY LEAGUE PLAYERS SCOTTISH UNION'S ACTION No race more jealously guards (he Jaws and traditions of sport than the Scots, but I think their Rugby authorities have gone too far in placing a ban on professional players who liave gone into'khaki, states an English writer. The Scottish Rugby Union positively refuses to allow these men to play even in Service Rugby matches, and has notified the Army authorities to that ,effect, much to their disgust. A more stiff-necked decision has not been reached by sport legislators since the war began, and Mich is the indignation it is likely to create that it will not be surprising if it leads to a split between the Scots and tho other home unions. Tho English Rugby Union readily gave permission for Rugby League men who have enlisted to play side by side with amateurs in Service matches. It has no wish to debar professionals serving the national cause. Wales is following tho English lead. But the Scots—no. Tho peace-time, restriction on the professional must be maintained, even although he has left tho game to wear the King's uniform.
