CENTENNIAL TOURNEY SOUTH ISLAND CONTESTS SUCCESS FOR MISS D. MILLER [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION ] TIMARU, Wednesday Tho South Island Centennial tennis championships are now nearing the final stages. The weather for the third day was again perfect. The final . of the Indies' singles produced steady tennis, Miss Dora Miller (Oamaru) having a hard match with Miss Thelma Poole (Canterbury). The former triok the first set easily, but Miss Poole shortened her gamo in tho second, scoring brilliantly at the net. Miss Millor, however, never let up, and her greater steadiness and accuracy won her the title. Brilliant play was witnessed in the final of the men's championship doubles, Brown and Angas defeating Pattinson and Penfold after a hardfought match. Pattinson and Penfold showed the better combination in the first set, being deadly at tho net, but failed to reproduce this form and dropped the next two sots. The men's singles final will be played to-morrow between A. D. Brown and C. Angas. Results were as follows: Men's Singles.—Semi-finals: C. Angas beat C. Penfold, o—o,0 —0, G —2; A. Brown beat R. Pattinson, o—2, 5—7, 0-—2. Ladies' Singles.—Final: Miss D. Miller (Oamaru) beat Miss T. Poole (Christchurch), o—l, d—o, o—4, Men's Doubles.—Semi-finals: Brown .and Angas beat Watson and Morris, o—o, 0-—4; Pattinson and Penfold beat Corich and Burning. o—o,0 —0, G—2. Final: Brown and Angas (Christchurch) beat Pattinson and Penfold (Christchurch), 9—7, 4 —o, o—3,0 —3, o—4.

WAIKATO CHAMPIONSHIPS TOURNAMENT CONCLUDES [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday Pixcellont play was witnessed in the final of tho men's doubles of the Waikato Lawn Tennis Association's championships, which wcro concluded at the Rostrevor .Street courts, Hamilton, to-day. The title was won by J, Roach and D. Livingstone, of Hamilton, who defeated J. C. Charters and L. Roach, also of Hamilton, 0 4, G —3, 4 G, S* 0. Tho game lasted over two hour 3 and produced many fine rallies. In the ladies' handicap doubles final Missc.s Kirk and Speakman beat Misses Boyd and Hitchcock, o—4,0 —4, G—3.
