Nash's negotiations, that British Government had agreed to a £5,000,000 credit for New Zealand defence and other Government purposes and £1,000,000 credit to finance private imports; and £10,000,000 New Zealand 3/a per cent conversion loan, at £'oo, to meet loan of £17,17'.!, 101 maturing on January 1, 1010; the amount of new loan to be repaid in instalments within five years; the balance of £1,172,101 to be repaid from accumulated sinking funds. 27. —Falls of snow in Auckland City and in North Auckland. 31. —Unprecedented fall of snow at Cape Maria Van Diemen. AUGUST 1. —Labour Government's fourth Budget presented to Parliament by acting-Minister of Finance, Mr. Savage; forecast of aggregate taxation increase of about £2,500,000 for 1030-40; estimated expenditure Of £38,243,000, or £2,456,000 moro than previous year; estimated revenue £38,260,000, leaving nominal estimated surplus of £17,000. 4. —The Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, underwent operation in Wellington. 28.—Tasman Empire Airways flying-boat Aotcaroa arrived at . Government also granted right to borrow £10,000,000. OCTOBER 1. —Increased postal and telegraph rates came into force. Agreement between Government and British Medical Association regarding maternity benefits under Social Security scheme took effect. 5. —Announcement that Government's guaranteed prices for dairy produce for coming season would be the same as for last season, viz., l I.SOd per lb. for butter and 8.42 d for cheese. 7. —Passing of Reserve Bank Amendment Bill, giving Government full control of bank.
