FIFTY YEARS AGO
UNREST IN RUSSIA "Reports of unrest in Russia which 28 years Inter was to come to a climax in a violent revolution, were current 50 years ago, the following paragraph being from the New Zealand Hekai/d of January 4, 1890: — "The internal condition of Russia again appears to be growing critical. AVe have already, had news of Nihilist plots, happily frustrated, and now today we publish intelligence of a serious conspiracy in the army for the overthrow of'the autocratic system. Thirtytwo officers have been arrested, which shows that the conspiracy must have been of a widespread character."
