CASUAL LABOUR RATE PAY SET AT 2/6 AN HOUR NO EXTRA FOR 'OVERTIME Conditions of work governing casual labourers engaged on farms for liarvesting were agreed upon by the Auckland District Council of Primary Production at a meeting held yesterday. Mr. R. C. Clark, of Paerata, representing the New Zealand Pig Council, presided. ■ » _ Pay is to be at a flat rate of 2s 6u an hour, with no extra payment for overtime. Meals aro to be provided to the men while on the job. Men will commence and cease work at times which suit the farmer. Thus, in harvesting hay, it was stated, often work could not. be commenced until late in the morning, and might of necessity require to be continued until late in the evening. Farmers were requested to arrange for the transport of the men, but if this was not possible .the Public Works Department might be able to arrange transport ,to and .from the camps where the men would sleep.
Arrangements are in train," it was stated, for the sending of circulars to all dairy and sheep farmers with a view to ascertaining their permanent and casual labour requirements.
The resignation of Mr. H. M. Pushworth, president of the Auckland Farmers' Union and its representative on the council, was accepted with regret.
