New "Western" Star
CESAR ROMERO'S SURPRISING ROLES A SURPRISING addition to the growing regiment of "Western stars" is Cesar Romero, says a commentator. Warner 13axt6r has at last retiiecl with honour from the adventures of "The 'Cisco Kid." The part has been handed on to Romero and Twentieth Century-Fox mean to take quite a lot of trouble building a regular series round it. Still more surprising is the news that teamed with Romero in the series will be Binnie Barnes. Both have been seen together before ■—in supporting parts in "Rendezvous, and as the life and soul of many Hollywood parties. I should not, however, have expected to see these two jovial people co-starring in' an open-air adventure series. Darryl Zanuck is in earnest about the scheme. Romero is certainly in the approved Latin traditidn for the part of the I "'Cisco Kid. H© has also been doing some good work in the last year or so as a supporting actor —although his social activities win him more publicity. His really bright comedy in _ Happy Landing." his Indian servant in The Little Princess," and his grubby henchman in "The Return of the 'Cisco Kid (Baxter's last appearance in v the part) have earned him a better chance. ~~~ Perhaps this series is it. But the real fact is that Westerns, and so Western actors, are at a premium just now in Hollywood.
