Zinc (pref.) 2 17 (> NEW YORK BUSINESS - NEW YORK, Nor, 16 Turnover on the New \ork Stock Exchange to-day totalled 820,000 stocks and shares, against 030,000 on tho picvious day. _____ BRUNNER COLLIERIES FURTHER LOSS REVEALED A loss of £6724, compared with a loss of £3339 in the previous year and a net profit of £3805 in 1937, is shown in the accounts of Brunner Collieries, Limited, for the year ended June 30. The loss is incurred after providing £1671 for interest on debentures and £I6OB for depreciation. The report states that the further loss is duo almost wholly to an increase in production costs.
Wages alone showed an increase of £6062 to £38,648. Employers' liability insurance at £2693 was £521 higher. Overhead expenses were greater by £456 and debenture interest was £244 less. The report states that the year ivas one of extreme difficulty, although turnover of 49,705 tons was slightly better than that of the previous year.
It has been decided to raise the output of the mine by the installation of an electric pump and other equipment, financial assistance being rendered by the Government. The report adds that it is imperative that the price of coal should bo increased, and, provided both the price and output can be increased, tho mine should bo in a position to make profits.
