STUDIES OF BIRDS

PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION The first comprehensive display of its kind to be shown in Auckland, an exhibition of New Zealand bird photographs, was opened yesterday at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. The exhibit, comprising about 150 studies, was the work of a well-known Auckland bird photographer, Major G. A. Buddie. Jfti opening the exhibition, which will continue for about a month, Mr. A. T. Pycroft, vice-president of the Auckland Instituto and Museum, referred to Major Buddie's fine work and said that great assistance had been given bird photography in recent years by; faster lens and telephotp > equipment. He hoped that the exhibition would give an incentive to others. Most of the common birds of the Dominion and outlying islands are included in the exhibition. Remarkable care and patience, as well as artistic knowledge, are shown in the studies. This care is shown in a group of photographs of the little-known babchick, taken in the 'Bo torn a district. Action pictures of sea-birds are also a feature of the display.
