TAKANINI TRACK

VALIMEEN SHINES FIVE FURLONGS IN 1.1 BIRTHDAY BOY IMPROVED LOVAALS SPRINTS NICELY Some useful gallops were recorded yesterday at Takariini by horses with engagements at the Waikato Racing Club's Spring fleeting, to be held on Saturday and Monday. Birthday Boy's effort over seven furlongs was a solid one and suggested that he has improved since his race at Avondale last Saturday. Valimeen was another to please, registering good time in a short sprint. The inside grass, with the poles loft, out, provided excellent going;. Orelio (Smith) and Arvakur (Inglis) were sent five furlongs, but were not doing their best to run 1.4 3-5. Both worked freely, particularly Orelio. Anion (Leckie) was allotted a similar task, which lie completed in the same time. Full Hand (Inglis) and Gladynev (Curwen) were travelling well at the end of six furlongs in 1.19 2-5. The former is to be ridden by Cr. Smith in tho Claudelands Handicap, in which Gladynev is also an acceptor. There was little between Valamito (Curwen) and High Sea (Beguely) at the end of six furlongs in 1.80 2-5, although the latter was going a shade the better over the last halffurlong. They went fast early, running the first half-mile in 50 3-ss. Gaymiss Records 37 3-5s Lovaals (Green), who is to race next at the Auckland meeting, sprinted three furlongs in 3S 3-ss. Gaymiss (Green) covered tho same ground in 37 3-os. She did her work stylishly and left the impression that she could have done a little better.

Veritable (Beguely), who is not usually a good track worker, shaped well over five furlongs in 1.3 1-5. Veritable is to race next at the Waikato meeting, where he is engaged in the Hack Cup on the second day.

Queen City (Clark) hit out well over threo furlongs in 36 l-ss. She looks little the worse for her race last Saturday and has not lost caste as a result of her defeat by Phaleron, to whom sho was conceding a good deal of weight. Birthday Boy (Clark) Jumped off just past tho mile post and ran seven furlongs in 1.29. being assisted over tho last five in 1.3 3-5 by Gamos (Green). The last six furlongs took 1.15 3-5. Birthday Boy worked in approved style and it is doubtful if ho was ever better than at present. Birthday Boy and Gamos are to fulfil their engagements at the Waikato meeting, where they will bo ridden by H. A. W i^gins. Payette (Spiuley) and Estro (Hatwell) jumped off at the six-furlong post, the former being just in front after threo iu 35 3-os. Estro continued on to complete tho six furlongs with ease in 1.17. Payette has lost little of her dash as a result of an enforced respite, and will race at the Waikato meeting. An Attractive Effort

Valimeen (Forsyth) was responsible for an attractive effort over five furlongs, running the first two in 24s and the full distance in 1.1. It was an outstanding gallop, drawing attention to her prospects in the Cambridge Handicap at Te Rapa on Saturday. Valimeen has rarely looked better and seems to be right at the top of her form. On the plough. Flood Tide (Green) ran the last five of six furlongs in 1.4. Paddy tho Rip (Gray) and Wynardo (Logan) ran four furlongs in 50 4-ss, the former doing the better at the finish after getting slightly the worse of the start. Others to do serviceable work included Palustre. Saccone and High Crown. Inquisitor (Fergus) schooled satisfactorily over four fences, although he got in a little close to the third fence. _ He worked at a good pace throughout, averaging 15s to the furlong, and afterward worked over a round on tho plough. . Norse Lady (Gray) and the Gnscony fill.v in H. Gray's stable (Logan) worked over three furlongs twice, on the second occasion being allowed to stride out at three-quarter pace. Both moved freely. . . .. Unless present Intentions are altered, lhe following horses , will compete at the Waikato meeting on Saturday and Monday:; —Kentucky. Payette, Penzance, Estro, Birthday Bov, Gamos, Full Hand. Gladvncv. Gold Monev Song, Valimeen, Cornish, Inquisitor, Wynardo, Vaalsstar, Tavern Gay, High Sea and Ablaze. , „ - , , • The latest arrival at headquarters is tho. novice Venture.. who was taken over by r. Smith after the recent Avondale meeting. Venture was restricted to trotting exercise yesterday.

THE TWO-YEAR-OLDS RUNNING AT RICCARTON DORIA AND ABSOLVE DO WELL "Tho Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting dirt a good deal to clarify tho two-year-old pusition, but it did not actually defino tho leading juvenile," writes "The ."Watcher." "Doria and Absolve came through best and. taking a line through Don't Forget, who beat Enrich in the Welcome Stakes and was within three lengths of Doria, Absolve looks to have the honours. He ran home tho easiest of winners by five lengths from Don't Forget. On tho same basis,. Enrich and Atreus were just as far ahead of l>on't Forget on tho last day, and'stable opinion is that Enrich is superior to Absolve. Thus Afrcus, who was having only his second race, comes woll into tho picture, so that all told ttie two-year-old form at Ricrartou was a trifle mixed. On tr.o ether hand, thcro is no three-year-old in sight to challengo tho supremacy of Beaulivro.'

NEW PLYMOUTH HORSES CANDIDATES FOR TE RAPA R. JOHNSON'S TEAM OF FOUR [by telegram—OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday Tho plough and tho course proper, with tho flags out about 15ft, were available for galloping at Now Plymouth this morning. On tho course proper Wavo Length and 801 l Casto ran three furlongs in <los, both hitting out in pleasing fashion. On the plough, Glenthawn comploted a round of pace work by .sprinting the last two furlongs in 20s. Glenthawn is looking particularly well. Ned Cuttle was apportioned a working gallop over a mile. Ho moved evenly all the way and finished full of running. Lexden bowled over fivo furlongs at a strong half-pace. R. Johnson, with Ned Cuttle, Lexden, Minority and Eupatrid, left for To Rapa this morning. Glenvano, who is engaged on tho second day, will leavo later in tho week in tho charge of R. W. Savago, who will ride him. PRINCESS ONYX WINS : SUCCESS AT VICTORIA PARK Princess Onyx, who was bred by J. J. Kcnnerlcy, and is by Native King, a highgrade trotter, from Onyx, one of the best pacers of her day in the Dominion, won the Trotters' Handicap at Victoria Park, Sydney, recently. Princess Onyx, who was foaled in 1031, was a very promising young trotter, when trained by Kennerley, and afterwards raced at the pacing gait. She was taken to Australia a few soasons back and ran second to Lord Daley in tho Australian Trotting Derby.

VETERAN PACER

LOGAN PARK STILL WINNING

The pacer Logan Park, by Logan' Pointer from Miss Burlington, who won Iho second division of the New Zealand Trotting Cup in 10-20, and was second to Peter Bingeii in the final, was a winner at Gowler, South Australia, this month. Handicapped on 21yds in the Stakes, 3.8 M class, he won by a head in '3.81 '2-5 and was good odds. Logan Park is '2O years old, nnd is a striking illustration of the great age to which well, hred trotting horses retain their form. TROTTING FIXTURES November '23, 25—Forbury Park Trotting Club.
